Obituary for Virginia Gomugda Golfo

Virginia Gomugda Golfo left this world on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 (aged 69 years). She passed away at Palmdale Regional Medical Center, California, surrounded by her beloved husband, niece, and neighbours. Her death is keenly felt by all those who knew her and who loved her.
Virginia was born on April 17, 1950, in Olongapo City, Philippines – the first child of Federico and Vicitacion Goumgda, and later, the oldest sister to five siblings: Estrella, Salvador, Rosita, Albert, and Rosalinda.
She attended Saint Joseph’s High School in Olongapo City, graduating in 1967. Virginia then went on to further study at the National Teacher’s College in Manila, successfully completing a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) degree. It was while at college she met her husband and love of her life, Juanito “Johnny” Dalusag Golfo, who she married happily and with hope in 1975. Following their marriage, Virginia and Juanito continued to live in Olongapo City for a time, where Virginia worked as a school teacher at elementary schools in Cabalan and Bajac-Bajac, before accepting the position of Secretary to the then-Mayor of Olongapo City, Moy Lipumano. Following this post, Virginia was employed by the Naval Supply Depot at the Subic Naval Base, remaining a dedicated and much-admired employee for over 20 years.
In 1995, Virginia and her husband were granted Special Immigrant status and made the life-changing decision to emigrate to the United States of America, settling into their new life in the state of California where Virginia held a number of positions within the correctional services sector, continually being recognised for her service and accomplishments. Her last position was as an Office Technician at the State Prison Facility in Lancaster, California, a position she had only recently retired from.
Virginia leaves behind her husband, Juanito, and her four surviving siblings: Salvador Gomugda, Rosita Gomugda, Albert Gomugda, and Rosalinda Gomugda Colon; her many nieces and nephews, who were children of her heart: Maricel, Sharon, Norwina, Dennis, Ronnel, Hazel, Rochelle, Nathan, Leisa, and Sheila; and the children of her nieces and nephews, who she saw as her own grandchildren, namely: Shane, Kent, Allen, Marc Alex, Kae Kae, Ariana, and Jepoy. She is survived by an extended family network and close friends, all who will miss her dearly.
In death, Virginia is reunited in heaven with her parents, Federico and Vicitacion, and her sister, Estrella, in peaceful rest. Virginia will be remembered as a caring and considerate soul, a woman who loved to cook, who worked hard, who had a smile that made others smile, and who did so much for her family.
