He was born in Park City, UT on September 19, 1938 to Josiah Dickert Sawyer and Sarah Rosetta Christianson. He was always proud to be from Park City and had many colorful stories of growing up in a mining town. He loved the outdoors and passed on his love of the mountains and camping to his family. Bob loved to hunt and fish with his friends and extended family.

Bob served in the army from 1958-1960. He was stationed overseas in Germany and was part of the army's snow ski team. Bob was an amazing snow skier and trained with the US Olympic ski team. He graduated from Westminster University with a degree in Business. He met Marilyn Stokes in Salt Lake City, UT and they married in August of 1961. They had three daughters together. They relocated to Orange County, CA in 1969. Bob and Marilyn enjoyed many family camping trips and wonderful days snow skiing, water skiing and swimming with their girls in their backyard pool. Bob worked for 3M Company for 35 years as a salesman in the Industrial Abrasives Division. He enjoyed the friendships he made with his coworkers and was still in contact with a few close friends until the time of his death. When he retired, he relocated to Shady Cove, OR and then later Bend, OR. He loved hosting his family and friends and spent many summer days river raftingkayaking, fishing, hiking and barbecuing his famous ribs. He loved his yellow lab BJ and they shared countless adventures together.

Bob met his longtime partner, Carol Doran, in Bend. She was his loving companion and caregiver until his last breath. They enjoyed traveling together to visit family and friends throughout the U.S. They also took two trips to Europe. Bob and Carol loved to ballroom dance and often did so at the Elks Lodge where Bob was a member for 50 years.

In March of 2021, Bob and Carol moved to Palmdale, CA to be by his three daughters and their families. He enjoyed spending time with his family and made lasting memories in those last three years of his life.
