Trudell McNear Obituary

On Saturday, September 11, 2021 at approximately 9:30 pm, Trudell McNear (affectionately known as “Trudy” by loved ones) took her last breath and went on to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Trudell was the true definition of a warrior and fighter as she was living with multiple medical conditions for two decades prior to her passing. Her beauty, strength, tenacity, tenderness, love, infectious smile, and beautiful laugh are just some of the many things that will be missed most about her.


Trudell McNear was born on November 19, 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Florence Francis. She was predeceased by her two brothers, John A. Frazier and Irvin Louis Francis and her son in law Lester J. Layne. Trudy spent her early years of life residing in South Carolina and Pennsylvania. Her teenage years and some of her early adult years were spent in New York. She attended P.S. (public school) 55 for her junior high school education. After completion of junior high, she attended Dodge Vocational High School where she was a member of the National Honors Society.



After high school, Trudy began her professional career at Home Life Insurance as a Payroll Clerk. In 1965, Trudy met the love of her life, Bobby McNear. They spent three years together before marrying on July 20, 1968. Throughout their 53 years of marriage, they were blessed with two wonderful daughters: Keisha Michelle McNear-Layne (in 1971) and Kylia Amani McNear (in 1978).



In 1995, Trudy, Bobby and their two daughters left the cold weather of the east coast for the warm, vibrant state of California. In 1996, Trudy was blessed with her first grandchild, Ty’riek. An abundance of blessings in the form of grandchildren continued to shower Trudy throughout her life as she later became grandmother to two additional boys and three girls: T’Kari (2006), Jaedin (2006), Jonee’ (2009), and twin girls, Ka’myah & Ka’risma (2015).



Trudy McNear had an artistic personality with multiple hobbies such as antiquing, crafting, planting, gardening, decorating and was an avid viewer of model homes. She was a wonderful conversationalist and was able to captivate anyone she came across with her quick wit and “classy but sassy” personality. She also loved hosting and entertaining her family and friends through cooking, fellowship and laughter. Trudy was also a devout woman of God. She served as a church secretary and was on the usher board at John J. Moore’s AME Zion Church in Bronx, New York. She also was a secretary and usher at Durham AME Zion in Bayshore, New York. When she relocated to Palmdale, California, she found her new church home at AGAPE Community Church in Lancaster, California, where she also served as an usher even after she became ill. Trudell is the epitome of a devout Christian, and the Lord is happy to have her close by serving in his Kingdom.



Trudy will always be cherished and remembered by her husband (Bobby), her sister (Carutha) her two daughters (Keisha and Kylia) and her six grandchildren (Ty’riek, T’Kari, Jaedin, Jonee’, Ka’myah & Ka’risma). She will further be remembered by many family, friends, neighbors and loved ones.
