ROBERT SHAULES

Robert William Shaules passed away peacefully in his home at Rancho Vista West Palmdale, California on November 16, 2023. His loving wife and daughter were by his side.

Born on June 1, 1936 to RoseMary Chase and William Pagel Shaules, the oldest of 4 brothers. He grew up in San Diego, California where he attended both Catholic and public schools. Robert especially enjoyed shop class and worked as a teenager at his fathers service station. He graduated high school from Hoover High School in 1955. He went on to join the Air Force however was honorably discharged a short time later due to polio in his left arm.

An avid motorcyclist Robert moved to England in the late 1950’s where he raced many races including the famous Isle of Man race in June of 1960. Although he quit racing shortly thereafter, this passion for motorcycles remained with him for his entire life.

He later migrated to Los Angeles and became co owner of a Honda motorcycle shop in Duarte, California.
In November of 1961, Robert met the love of his life while at a dance club in Hollywood. A young lady from Ecuador named Josefina with whom he fell in love with and married on May 12, 1962. They lived together in Los Angeles before moving to the San Fernando Valley, North Hollywood. Together they had 4 beautiful children.

Robert worked many jobs during his life from selling air conditioners and appliances to working in big office buildings as a Building Maintenance Engineer.
He owned an apartment building in Los Angeles for ages 55 and over which he managed himself.
He bought a home in Arleta, California in 1972 and raised his family there. He became very involved with St. Genevieve’s Parish in Panorama City where all his children attended school.
He was very adamant about their education and all 4 children went on to university because of this.

In his later years Robert became a passionate collector of motorcycles mostly BMW. He rode occasionally but enjoyed more the collecting end of it and keeping the bikes clean.
In 1989 he and Josefina moved to Palmdale to be closer to their grandchildren and what a wonderful grandfather he proved to be.
He worked briefly at the Palmdale Walmart Auto Department then at the Texaco building in Studio City as a Building Engineer in the 1990s.

He will always be remembered as supportive, generous and loving, always in good spirits and positive. Always willing to loan a hand when asked or an ear. A wonderful conversationalist and a friendly person making new friends wherever he went. His favorite meeting places included the gym and walking in the mall with other “mall walkers” and reading motorcycle magazines at Barnes and Noble.

The life and spirit of our family wherever he was…he is greatly missed by all who knew him. He has now joined his son Bobby in heaven.

Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years Josefina, his 3 children William, John and Monica, son in-law Marc, daughters in-law Jennifer and Michele, grandchildren Kristianne Hannemann (her husband Fabian, great granddaughters Leila & Sofia), Marc Robert, Jonathan, Jenna, Kyle, Amy and Chad and all of his great grandchildren.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
