Elaine Josephine Head, 85, of Quartz Hill, CA died Tuesday 05/28/24 at her residence with family by her side.

Mrs. Head, who moved to the Antelope Valley in the mid-1960’s, was a longtime resident of Quartz Hill. She was born in Jennings, Missouri on August 2, 1938, the daughter of Anthony Koviak and Mildred Hoegemeier.

She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years at Linda Verde Elementary School, worked as a waitress at the Desert Inn, and later worked for 10 years until retirement for Lucky Supermarket in Lancaster.

At the age of 17, she eloped and married the love of her life, Phillip Head, in Holly Springs, Mississippi on 08/08/1955. They were married 61 years before his passing in 2017. Together they had 5 children, 4 of whom were born in different states. They made many moves across the United States and once into Montreal, Canada as her husband served in the U.S.A.F. And later worked for Lockheed. Throughout the years, Elaine made a home wherever they went. Her children and family were most important to her.

She loved to camp at Big Sur, sing songs around the campfire, inner-tube and play bus tag at Yosemite National Park, and to park along the beaches if the Calif. coast, from Pacific Grove down to Ventura. She loved to cruise down the highway in her motorhome, listening to her favorite music. Her favorite song as a child and growing up was “You Are My Sunshine”.

Mrs. Head was a Catholic, an excellent cook, and she loved playing Mexican Train Dominoes, Left Right Center, 10,000, Spades, and Poker. She was the Matriarch and glue that kept her family together.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Shelly Head of Quartz Hill, Stacy Sowell and Leslie Deger both of Tehachapi, 2 sons, Jason Head of Marietta, GA, Travis Head of Quartz Hill, a sister Julia Koviak of Salinas, a brother Michael Koviak of Pebble Beach, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-children.

In addition to her late parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband Phillip Head, 2 sisters, JoAnn Mitchell, Seaside and Sharon Grout, Pacific Grove.

To honor her wishes, no services are planned. She will be cremated and a private celebration of life party will be held in her honor at a later date.
