Connie Litel

Constance Louise Litel was born to Jim & Opal Thomas in Tekamah, NE on August 27, 1942. Connie died peacefully in her sleep on February 21, 2023 in Lancaster, CA. Connie married John Litel on October 21, 1960 in Onawa, IA.

Life brought them West in 1964 to Moorpark, CA where they raised their kids and were an active part of the community. Connie was a Blue Bird Leader, a soccer coach, an active member of Moorpark Booster Club, the best 50/50 ticket seller at MUHS Football games and the loudest person in the stands at all of her kids’, grandkids’…and even great grandkids’ games.

She worked many jobs before settling into the one she loved the most, working as a teacher’s aide at Moorpark elementary and high schools for 23 years.

After she “retired “ in 1997 she continued working as a substitute teacher’s aide in Lancaster, transported some motorhomes with her husband and even helped out in a movie theatre with her daughter. She was proud of the work she did and had such fond memories of so many of her students and co-workers. However, she was the hub and heart of her family which brought her the greatest joy.

Connie enjoyed traveling and was blessed to be able to see Canada, England, Ireland, Spain, France, Mexico, The Bahamas, and Belize. In her travels, she really wanted to visit all 50 states and she made it to all but one, North Dakota. Many bingo games and penny slots were played by Connie over the years and in her later years she enjoyed the free games the internet had to offer from the comfort of her recliner.

Family was everything to Connie and she is lovingly survived by her husband John, her children Aimee Litel of Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Owens (Brendon) of Meridian, ID, and Michael Litel Sr (Kathy) of Lancaster, CA. Her grandchildren Andrea Anderson (Derek) and their children Brady (15), Jenna (12) and Abbey (9) of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Litel, Jr (Ashley) and their children Nixon (5) and Opal (3) of Lancaster, CA, Andrew White of San Diego, CA, Shauna Avant (Derek) and their children Ethan (25), Cameron (8) and McKinley (7) of Lancaster, CA, Tyler Litel (Justine) and their son Hardin (1) of Oxnard, CA, Alyssa Litel and her son Jonah (11) of Lancaster, CA. Her step-grandchildren Tami Murtaugh (Scott) and their son Elliott (9) of Lancaster, CA, BJ Owens(Miriam) of Palmdale, CA and Kimberly Devoto (Tony) and their children Emma (5), Jed (3) and Ayla (1) of Lancaster, CA.

She is also survived by so many more, including her sister-in-law Mary Thomas of Waterloo, NE, brother-in-law Rick Litel-Smith (Sarah) of Papillion, NE, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that were like family.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Jefferey Scott Litel, her parents, Jim and Opal Thomas, her in-laws, Keith & Berdean Litel, her 2 brothers Gene and Donald Thomas, sisters-in-law Peg Thomas and Barbara Feiling.

The family would like to thank Ike, MaryAnne and Mhiller at Annabelle’s Cottage in Lancaster for the care and support they provided for Mom in the last 11 months.

Connie helped lay the foundation for this amazing family and her legacy will live on through us all.
