WHALEN, Carol Bridget (Hinnigan)
82, December 21st, 1938 - April 24th, 2021
Carol Bridget Whalen (Hinnigan) was born December 21st, 1938 and grew up in Manhattan, New York, the eldest daughter of Patrick and Mary Hinnigan. She passed away suddenly of a heart attack on April 24th, 2021 in Lancaster, California. She now rests in Christ's kingdom, and even Heaven is improved by her presence.
Carol met Nicholas Whalen growing up in New York, and they were married on May 25th, 1957, while he was serving in the Air Force. They remained together for more than 63 years until her passing. Carol was the mother to 8 (often times unruly) Irish children: Thomas, Kathleen, Brian, Eileen (Hasting), John, James, Andrew, and Gregory. She was preceeded in death by her parents, her son James, and her daughter Kathleen. Carol is survived by her husband Nicholas, her sister Moira, her children; Thomas, Brian, Eileen, John, Andrew, Gregory; scores of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, with more still on the way.
Carol moved around the world while Nicholas was in the Air Force, then lived in Rosamond, California with Nicholas for over 40 years after he retired. Carol worked as a clerk at Grant's department store, a school aide at Payne Elementary, a nurse at Lancaster Community Hospital, and as a secretary for NASA, Boeing, and St. Mary of the Desert Catholic Church; but the job she was the most proud of was being a mother/grandmother/great-grandmother. Carol will forever be remembered as the beloved matriarch to 4 generations of the Whalen clan.
Her funeral services will be on Friday, May 21st, 2021:
- 9 am Rosary at St. Mary of the Desert Catholic Church (3100 15th Street West, Rosamond, CA 93560).
- 10 am funeral Mass also at St. Mary of the Desert Catholic Church.
- 12 pm graveside service at Good Shepherd Cemetery (43121 70th Street West, Lancaster, CA 93536).
For the funeral mass and graveside service we ask that you bring your own chair. The mass maybe outdoors depending on the number of attendees, and the graveside service will of course be outside.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Jude Cancer Research in Carol's name, in the hope that no other mother has to outlive their children due to cancer.
