I thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, my Dad only had a GED and accomplished a lot in his life, He worked as a Tech Rep for the F-105, was an engineer that helped develop the suppression system on the A-10 Gatlin gun as well as his last job working on the Stealth bomber. Also in that time, he built two experimental planes one call the Volmer Jensen an amphibious plane at Hampton Institute a 7-year project. We did a lot of touch and goes at Chicohomey River and won a few Trophies for quality build plane, and then the Thorp T-18 in our family garage at 7 Maume Circle a 3-year project that had over 10 Trophies. We did a roll over the James River bridge that I will never forget.
I have so many more memories to cherish thought out his 91 years on this earth and will never forget all of his advice and wisdom that he possessed and would share with the people, friends, and family. For this, I will always be thankful that he could be apart of all who met him.
God bless you Dad and all you achieved in your life,
Michael T. Linda and Guy

It's amazing to me, all that Lyle accomplished. I had no idea that he had done so much. His passion for whatever it was he chose to do seemed to lead him to many successes. Although Lyle had bypass surgery in the early 1990s, he managed to overcome the hurdles he faced with becoming eligible to fly again after such a surgery. His own disciplined approach to diet and exercise led him to no longer need the medications that hindered his ability to fly again. He was then able to fly again for several years before making the decision to move on to another hobby and passion...photography. Lyle was able to apply his technical abilities as he captured the beauty of nature, people and places through the lens of a camera. He was an active member of the Lancaster Photography association where he grew as a photographer. He entered and judged many photography competitions and also won several awards for many of his own pictures. I am grateful to Lyle for all of the beauty he shared with us through his photographs. I enjoyed many conversations with Lyle throughout the years. He was a good listener, kind and also fair. He made sense and offered good advice. I am forever grateful to you Lyle and look forward to meeting with you again one day. Kathy

I am so sorry for your loss. My father, Henry (Hank) Steiginga worked with your dad, I think, at NASA. I remember Dad talking about Lyle a lot over the years. My dad also built a T-18! That was his pride and joy. He won the Wright Brother's Award for it. He also built it at home, so for many years, my mom used to joke that she slept with a propeller under her bed for a long time. My dad passed away a couple years ago and I miss him so much! He was a special person as I'm sure your dad was, too. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Betty (Steiginga) Babcock
